Fast facts

5B customer: 1414 Degrees Ltd

Project Overview

5B will supply the 5B Maverick solution for the initial 70 MWp solar PV development at 1414 Degrees’ Aurora Energy Precinct (Aurora), a 16 km² site near Port Augusta, South Australia. The solar development will cover 42 hectares and forms part of Aurora’s Stage 1 grid-scale project, alongside an approved 140 MW / 280 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

Located in South Australia’s Upper Spencer Gulf Renewable Energy Zone, Aurora combines large-scale solar generation potential with battery storage and proposed grid connections to supply firmed renewable power to the National Electricity Market and behind the meter to data centres and other major energy users.

The 5B Solution: Maverick

1414 Degrees has selected the Australian-designed 5B Maverick as Aurora’s preferred solar deployment system. Solar panels, cabling and connections are factory-assembled and tested before transport to site, reducing on-site assembly work. The prefabricated units unfold for rapid installation, while their compact layout accommodates more solar capacity per hectare than conventional layouts. The 5B Mavericks for Aurora will be manufactured at 5B’s facility in Adelaide, South Australia, and transported to the precinct for installation.

The Maverick layout supports Aurora’s indicative precinct-wide potential of approximately 2 GW of solar PV capacity, supporting staged development of the precinct.

This project with 1414 Degrees is an example of 5B’s ability to deliver more solar capacity from available land, with less on-site work.
